Seeing Sitka

Hello Everybody, may I (Ethan Stranger) be the 1st to say that after a Good Needed Break:

I’d like to consider this post to be a Spin-off to my “The Joys of Juneau Post”, as I’ll be talking about another part of Alaska (Sitka) & let me tell you, Sitka itself is basically like Juneau (literally, fun fact, it takes about 26 mins to get from Juneau to Sitka)

Last Year, I did go to Sitka (however things were a bit different from this year's trip), for starters (this time) we stayed at this suite (Picture, Top) that was near the docks (Picture, Top), managed to spot a large sea Lion swimming around the area (though wasn’t able to get a picture of it), but whenever it was low tide, I did manage to snap this pics of Starfish & this washed-up chair (Pictures, top), gotta say, the dock area where the suite was located was very quiet & peaceful (plus I enjoy looking out at the sea back in Juneau, I’m used to it).

Sitka (like Juneau & Alaska itself) is known for its wild creativity made by people with pure imagination; just check out these pics (Picture, Top). Never before have I seen stuff like that in Texas (I was born in Juneau and raised in Texas). Sitka always has nice scenery & interesting places to go to (like their Raptor center, Pictures: Below). Through I went there last year, this year, things were a bit different because of a Bird disease that was affecting the Raptors over at the center (mainly that several raptors were in their cages.

While In Sitka, I got a chance to See that new Dr. Strange Movie. Sadly I didn’t get a chance to make a cameo, read more about that within my “The Strange Origin of Ethan Stranger” post, but look at this (Picture: below) from the 1st Dr. Strange Movie, I’m the Extra with the  fedora hat, striped shirt, backpack & sunglasses (in case you needed to have remained)

Back to the topic about me in Sitka (not sure if Dr. Strange himself would wanna vacation here or in Juneau). The newest thing that I did while in Sitka this year was visiting their Bear Sanctuary (Better known as the “Fortress of the Bears”), since really it’s a refuge for orphan Black & Brown Bears. In the past, I’ve mainly seen Black Bears within the wilderness of Juneau (as Brown Bears lived farther north in Alaska). A fun fact is that Black Bears come in various colors (as well as having fancy nicknames to go with their different coats, Black Bears with Brown Fur (Cinnamon Bears), Black Bears with White Fur (Spirit Bears) & Black Bears with Darkish Blue Fur (Glacier Bears) (Picture: Below)

Like Walt Disney Once said: “Nature Writes the Screenplays & real animals are often more surprising than the antics that we dream up for a cartoon character”, and may I say that these Bears were really putting on a show for the tourists (Pictures: below); from making love (in front of a live audience) to pretending to stub a foot (that’ll make a good postcard picture).      I wish my Grandpa was here to enjoy these fun experiences with me.

To wrap it all up about my time in Sitka this year, I have a purpose to visit this place whenever I get the chance. You see me (Picture, Left Corner Below), that’s me again visiting my Grandpa’s grave (in Sitka, that’s where the Military Cemetary is, fun fact: My Grandpa served in the Korean War ).

Besides (as I mention), Sitka is a bit like Juneau (small, often quiet by the afternoon, like literally, after my Dad and I came out from watching Dr. Strange 2, the entire town got quiet as everything was closed for the day. It was like walking through a ghost town). I don’t mind that actually, because throughout my life, I’ve been in some pretty loud places (and as an Asperger person, I despise loud noises), so being in either Juneau or Sitka, allows me to better enjoy the beauty of life (in general) without having to worry about anything or be disturbed by the loudness.

(You know what kind of music Sitka needs…some Barry White music)

There so are so many parts of Sitka that I haven’t been able to see yet (mainly because this year my time in Sitka was only for a couple of days), unlike last year, plus it wasn’t the same without my Aunt & Uncle (from my Dad’s side of the family, read more about them in my “The Joys of Juneau Post”). After all, I have a purpose for coming to Sitka (not just for simple tourism), but to also pay my respects to my late Grandpa (who would’ve been proud of me for what I’ve managed to achieve so far in the crazy game of life (Plus I wouldn’t mind in the future permanently returning to my hometown of Juneau). After all, remember from the Simpsons Movie (Alaska: A Fresh Start) where else in the world is a fresh start?

So for all, you tourists, don’t feel afraid to visit the many wonders of Alaska (in general), as cities within the Last Frontier have their own unique attractions for residents & tourists alike (such as both Sitka & Juneau, I might have suggested that the 2 cities are the same, but overall, they’re completely different in their own unique ways). I’ve only been to Sitka twice, so it’ll take a bit more time to flesh out how Sitka & Juneau differ (because both cities have friendly faces, creativity all around, and peace & quiet within the city at times).
