The Path of Pacifism: The Sweet Perfuma Story

I (Ethan Stranger) have mentioned a lot about Entrapta (and even did a blog post on her, discussing how I related to her due to her being on the Asperger Spectrum). But for this post, I’ve decided to take a little break from Entrapta and discuss another favorite character of mine from Netflix’s She-Ra...and that character is sweet Perfuma.

We’re 1st introduced to this “Gardener Hippie Girl” in Season 1 Episode 4 (Flowers for She-Ra) where we learn that sweet Perfuma & her people of the forested agricultural kingdom of Plumeria, where they’re a peaceful race of forest people with little military defenses. One could argue that the Showrunner (Noelle Stevenson) & various Writers on the series were inspired by the Hippies of the late 1960s, with their clothes & their Gentle/Pacifism manner… watch this funny clip of She-Ra’s Notable Steed (Swift Wind) attempting to train the people of Plumeria… in Weird Horsey Methods.

Perfuma & the people of Plumeria are in fact relatable (especially to the Hippie Culture) however, they’re still either people or communities that believe that violence is never the answer & that the only way to achieve world peace  is through the art of pacifism. However not everybody can be fully on-board with that idea and it's true that sometimes we could all be in a tight spot where you’re being bullied, mugged, or even worse. Its true that there are many ways of defending ourselves, like using the art of “DIM-MAK” (which is also referred to as “The Touch of Death or Death-Point Striking”), a move that “Avatar: TLA Character, Ty Lee” uses (though it’s refer to as “Chi-Blocking”), but as everything in life, it takes a lot of hard work and training to use effectively. For the common joe, relying on the police is still the best, and safest, way to go.  

Another relatable aspect of Perfuma & the people of Plumeria is their love for nature, Just look like Perfuma’s little flowers hanging from her hair (Picture, Left Corner), as well as counting her Chlorokinesis abilities. While in real-life, nobody (not even Greta Thunberg) has any special Plant-Controlling Abilities, they’re various organizations or individuals that sponsor environmental organizations or activists who would do whatever it takes to make us (the people) learn better on how  we can work with nature rather than against it, cause otherwise, our planet will reach unsustainable levels of contamination & that’s something that nobody (not even would Perfuma & the people of Plumeria) would want to happen in the near/far-off future, that’s why we must help keep our world Green & Clean.

I also wanna point out Perfuma’s beautiful Vine Sculpture of Entrapta (when she was thought dead following a rescue mission within the Fright Zone), now Greta Thunberg is quite impressed!

Lastly, I want to point out that Perfuma is a good representation in the “Art of Positivity”, even in the worst of the situations, Perfuma is still able (on most occasions) to keep a positive attitude & help others gain a self-esteem or self-confidence boost when they themselves feel like they keep going. A perfect example would be Scorpia, who began as an antagonist before switching sides. During her time with the Horde, Scorpia was always keeping a positive attitude (especially towards Catra, who was always negative & bitter towards her) & this is what made Scorpia switch sides (as well as seeking the Princesses aid to save Entrapta from Beast Island).

Interesting fact is that both Perfuma & Scorpia are a couple, however (no offence to fans of this couple or to Noelle Stevenson) but I just have difficulty seeing these two as a couple, maybe as friends, but as lovers...not so much, I just feel that their relationship is not explored at a deep enough level to see them fall in love with each other in the first place. My only hope is that people be more like Perfuma, more understanding, encouraging, loving & positive towards both the Aspergers & ADHD communities!
