Rick & Morty Presents: The Vindicators IV

¡Spoiler warning! If you haven't seen Rick and Morty S3E4, you might want to avoid this post.

“Hello, all you Rick & Morty fans, welcome to your reckoning babyyyyyyyy!!” (Just kidding) for I Ethan Stranger have decide do to a post based around Adult Swim’s popular series Rick & Morty (especially with this one episode that involves the lovable Doc & Morty spoofs teaming up with a Guardians of the Galaxy Parody-styled Team known as “The Vindicators” to team-up against the Doomsday/Darkseid/Despero Hybrid known as “The Worldender, only for a huge twist to happen, followed by many fun set pieces, and of course, some gore and death. Speaking of Gore (for those you’ve watched the series, the Gore seen is actually played out more for “Real Laughs” (because of Drunk Rick) than compared to the Gore seen on Family Guy

The reason I’ve decided to talk about this particular episode is that several fans (including Rick & Morty co-creator, Dan Harmon) disliking this episode, but allow me Ethan Stranger myself to review (in my opinion) on why I like this episode (and how quite surprisingly, I can find it relatable to today’s world within society itself).

To kick things off, Rick & Morty get summoned by The Vindicators (despite Rick refusing but did it as part of  Morty’s right to choose one in every ten Rick and Morty adventures) in an attempt to aid in their battle against their arch-nemesis (Worldender), but Rick tells  Morty that despite the Vindicators heroic deeds, they aren’t really that special & (for being the smartest guy in the universe) tells Morty that he defeats gagoos more powerful than these guys every week, this feels kinda hurts Rick when Morty calls the Vindicators “his heroes” (plus Rick can’t really roll with the hero-kind due to his persona).

So Rick goes out for a drink, only for him to get literally drunk, sneak into Worldender’s lair & literally defeats him (when completely drunk), then turns his lair into a “Saw-Setting Game” for whenever the Vindicators arrive, they’ll reveal their true selves in front of Morty. What was not part of the plan was for Rick & Morty to be trapped with the Vindicators & Noob-Noob was supposed to tag along for Rick to show his true feelings to him (Much to Morty’s dismay & anger), but hey, at least Grandpa & Grandson made it out ok

(though the same can’t be said for the Vindicators, however they brought most of the death within this episode on themselves, all because they weren't the heroes they said they were). Curious how sometimes our own expectations don’t live up to reality, right?

In my opinion, I (Ethan Stranger) believe that this episode attempts to prove a point, mainly about how within today’s society we view ourselves, others, and our role models - sometimes forgetting that we’re all humans that are living under the same sky. Have you noticed how we tend to pick and choose what we show others, usually just focusing on positive emotions, positive quotes, etc. This is common in social media and, unfortunately, has a negative impact on people that view this content and start thinking: “Huh, so this is what life is supposed to be? Why am I not as happy as they look?”. After a while I started realizing that I can’t continue to try to live up to standards that aren’t necessarily real, that it’s not healthy to pretend to be someone that I’m not, and to try to focus on my own life without the need to compare myself to others - this never helps as we might just see the good things in other people's lives, but almost never the negative aspects of if.

Think about how Morty attempted to live up to the legacy of The Vindicators, but also finds himself handling situation more like Rick’s, which involves getting Gory (like remember Pickle Rick’s battle with those disgusting Rats or even Morty’s Mom, Beth when she went into Froopy land to rescue “King Tommy”, only for her to go on a violent manslaughter). Sometimes things just aren’t what they seem at first, we always need to be perceptive and remember that not everyone thinks in the same way, if we do this we can adapt to any real-life situation.

Until My Next Rick & Morty-related Post (as long as Pickle Rick doesn’t slaughter me for it)
