Marvel’s What if…Special (Spider-Man) Edition
Welcome back to another edition of Ethan Stranger’s “Marvel’s What if…Special Edition” (feel free to check out the 1st post with the same name that I’ve written), but today (while still awaiting on more news for the upcoming Marvel’s animated What if…Season 2), I’ve decided to write up another Special Edition of Marvel’s What if…, this time based on everybody’s favorite friendly neighborhood Web-Slinger, Spider-Man, especially following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where now both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garifeld’s Spider-Man’s have entered the MCU and could reapper again in “2026’s Avengers: Secret Wars”, but who knows if those 2 would reprise as there “original/respective”, or should Marvel and Sony take the opportunity to have both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garifeld variant version of there Spider-Man’s, but to do that, lets explore the the Spider-Verse (because who knows if these Spider-Varaints will appear in the upcoming “Across the Spider-Verse or in Beyond the Spider-Verse”), so let's go down the Spider-list, shall we?
-Sam Raimi’s Spider-Verse What if’s…
Uncle Ben Lives (2002’s Spider-Man): Taking inspiration from this What if Story from the comics (Picture: Bottom Center), this is an alternate universe where Uncle Ben had lived and it was Aunt May who got killed by “The Burglar” instead and then later on, Uncle Ben tells J.Jonah Jameson of who Spider-Man really is and what a fine young man Spider-Man himself is and that he’s trying to do good to the public.
Celebrity Spider-Man (2002’s Spider-Man): Taking inspiration from this What if Story from the comics (Picture: Bottom left Corner), this is an alternate universe where Spider-Man manages to stop the Burglar that would’ve killed his Uncle Ben, thus (having never lost his Uncle Ben), this version of Spider-Man becomes a famous (but very selfish/egotistical) Celebrity. Plus this could also give us a variant version of Dr. Strange in the Raimi-Verse (as he was teased in Spider-Man 2, Picture: Bottom Center), where Dr. Strange is like his Ultimate Marvel Counterpart (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), known as Stephen Strange Jr., this version of the Sorcerer Supreme acts as a guru celebrity who helps Spidey reach fame.

Flash Thompson: Spider-Man (2002’s Spider-Man): An alternate universe where Joe Manganiello’s Flash Thompson got bitten by the Radioactive Spider (instead of Peter Parker), but things always go wrong whenever Flash Thompson is Spider-Man, as Captain Spider (Picture: Bottom Left Corner), he got killed during a battle with the Vulture, then in this What if…tale (Picture: Bottom Center), Flash Thompson became the Criminal known as “The Spider” and Peter Parker constructed an exoskeleton to battle The Spider. And finally in this What if…Tale (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), Flash Thompson gave up his life as Spider-Man turned himself in to the police.
Spider-Aunt (2002’s Spider-Man): An alternate universe where Rosemary Harris’s Aunt May is bitten by the Radioactive Spider and later becomes Spider-Aunt (Bottom Left Corner), plus there was this one issue of What if…where it features Aunt May as a variant version Iron Man, Ant-Man and Iceman (Picture: Bottom Right Corner)
Old Man Peter Parker: Taking some inspiration from Marvel’s MC2 comics and the 2017s Logan movie, this alternate universe could show us a variant version of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, now old and retired (Picture: Bottom Left Corner) and now training his daughter, May Parker, to become the next friendly neighborhood web-slinger, Spider-Girl, but some major threat forces Peter to don the mask and costume again team up with his daughter to take on this new threat.
Superior Spider-Man (2004’s Spider-Man 2): An Alternate universe where Spider-Man’s final battle with Doctor Octopus claimed his tentacles afterward, but would Peter Parker have better control over them than compare to Otto Octavius?
Spider-Venom (2007’s Spider-Man 3): An alternate universe where Peter Parker decided to keep the Venom symbiote, thus becoming “Spider-Venom: Lethal Protector”
(The lifestyle that Peter Parker would’ve had if he kept the Venom Symbiote)
Marc Webb’s Spider-Verse What if’s…
Gwen Stacy Lives (2014s Amazing Spider-Man 2): Taking some inspiration from this What if... Comic (Picture: Bottom Center), An alternate universe shows us what if…Andrew Garifeld’s Spider-Man had saved Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy from Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) and the 2 got married and had a happy life
Murderous Spider-Man (2014s Amazing Spider-Man 2): Taking some inspiration from this What if... Comic (Picture: Bottom Center), an alternate universe where Spider-Man killed Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) for killing Gwen Stacy, thus making Spider-Man not so merciful to the villains he battles, becoming a bit more like “The Punisher”
Armored Spider-Man (2014s Amazing Spider-Man 2): An alternate universe where Spider-Man’s big battle with the Rhino ended with him winning and he managed to salvage some of his armor, thus creating the “Spider-Armor”
Spider-Lizard (2012s Amazing Spider-Man): An alternate universe where Spider-man failed to prevent The Lizard (Curt Connors) from transforming the entire city population of New York into Lizard-People, thus Peter Parker transforms into Spider-Lizard (Picture: Bottom Center), though savage at times, the mind of Peter Parker is often in control of this new reptilian body
Emma Stone’s Spider-Gwen (2012s Amazing Spider-Man): An alternate universe where Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy gets bitten by the radioactive spider, becoming Spider-Gwen and Andrew Garifeld’s Peter Parker becomes the Lizard
(Click here to refresh your memory on Spider-Gwen’s Origin)
MCU Spider-Man What if’s…
(Captain America: Civil War): An alternate universe where Tony Stark never recruited Peter Parker to join his team during the events of Civil War, thus Peter Parker who’s been stuck donning that homemade onesie Spider-Man costume (Picture: Bottom Left Corner) and perhaps Tony would’ve found some way to recruit Ant-Man (Scott Lang) instead onto his team (Picture: Bottom Right Corner, according to some concept art). Plus, I’d like to know better how Tony Stark figured out that Peter Parker was Spider-Man in the first place?
(Spider-Man: Homecoming): An alternate universe where The new suit that Stark gives Peter (during Captain America: Civil War) is an alternate version of the Iron Spider Suit (Picture: Bottom Center) and instead of dealing with Vulture, Spider-Man would be forced to deal with General Ross, as he attempts to learn about Spider-Man wants to create an army of Super Soldier Spider-Men for the US Government, taking elements from the Marvel's Ultimate Clone Saga and introduce a variant version of Ultimate Jessica Drew (Picture: Bottom Left Corner) and Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider (Bottom Right Corner). Plus, I’d like to know why General Ross never questioned Stark on who is “Spider-Man” and did Stark have Spidey sign the Sokovia Accords (in any matter of way) during the events of Captain America: Civil War?
(Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame): An alternate universe where Spidey receives Cosmic Powers (becoming Cosmic Spider-Man, Picture: Bottom Left Corner) during Avengers: Infinity War and then was lucky enough to survive from getting snapped away, then later (during Avengers: Endgame) with his cosmic powers, joins Captain Marvel into patrolling the galaxy and even dating (Picture: Bottom Right Corner)
(Spider-Man: Far From Home): An alternate universe where Peter Parker found out about his parents being SHIELD agents (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), thus later asks “The (Real) Nick Fury” to join up with SHIELD as he attempts to learn more about what happened to his parents, perhaps even introducing a variant version of Mysterio with links to the Parker family...
(Spider-Man: No Way Home): An Alternate universe where (taking some inspiration from Episode 4 of the animated What if…Series), Peter Parker gets turned down by Dr. Strange to help him make everyone his superhero identity, thus, Peter Parker looks for different ways to gain magic, so that he perhaps he himself can cast a forgetting spell (even gains a magical suit, having absorbed some much magic), however, not really a true sorcerer, Peter Parker ends up collapsing his entire universe, with only him and Strange has managed to create a mirror dimension bubble around themselves, with Spidey putting the blame on himself for everything, thus he and Straneg now attempt to restore their universe, in hopes everybody forgets Peter Parker is Spider-Man in the newly restored universe while also given away his powers to Dr. Strange
Taking inspiration from this What if…Tale (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), this is a universe where it’s Peter Parker (not Rick Jones) who ends up sneaking onto the gamma test site (being dared by Flash Thompson), Dr. Bruce Banner came rushing outside to save him before the bomb went off. Parker pushes Banner into the ditch, but becomes affected by the Gamma Blast, after which he seems fine, but it isn’t until he gets bitten by a radioactive spider, which triggers him to transform into the Hulk while also gaining Spider-like abilities, thus the concept of Spider-Hulk is born (Picture: Bottom Left Corner)
Following the events from Episode 5 of the animated What if…Series, if Spider-man managed to survive his encounter with Zombie Thanos, then perhaps he’ll become “Cyborg Spider-Man (Picture: Bottom Right Corner) and team up with other survivors for the upcoming animated Marvel Zombies Series (Picture: bottom Left Corner), with his cybernetics coming from Wakanda and bits of the Cloak of Levitation are now stitched onto his costume (after getting attacked by zombies), perhaps headless Scott Lang will be attached to an androids body by now and Black Panther would’ve sacrificed himself while battling Zombie Thanos. Plus, I would hate to see Spider-Man being turned into a zombie, as the What if…zombie episode showed me how this Spider-Man variant still keeps himself and his teammates upbeat after facing off against zombies (read his powerful motivational speech), (Picture: Bottom Center), thus I do hope that he survives (as a cyborg, because it’ll be impossible to survive an attack from an infinity gauntlet-wielding zombie Thanos), just in time for the animated Marvel Zombies Series.
Oh man, what a post, but with the Multiverse opening up soon with “Across the Spider-Verse” and soon “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, it has everybody wondering if either Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield or Tom Holland return as the same or a variant version fo there respective Spider-Man (plus I don’t even know if any of these variants that I’ve listed will appear in those 2 films, but I have seen Flash Thompson’s Captain Spider and a variant version of Superior Spider-man in the Across the Spider-Verse Trailer), though you’ll hardly see me (Ethan Stranger) take on the mantle of Spider-man (which I kinda did, pictures: Bottom Right and Left Corners), though forget about Capes, what about “patriotic-colored Sailor Captain hats” that one might bring to a dance off (Cue the music):
Finally, I’d like to wish the best of luck to a certain “Spider-Girl (Picture: Bottom Center)” a best of luck to her and her family, as Dr. Strange would say “So Long, Kid”, but I’m sure we’ll meet up again and have a like a “Stark/Parker hug reunion scene” (Picture: Bottom Left Corner), plus, had your brother (Snow-Dan) and a Firestar variant shown-up, then I (Ethan Stranger) could’ve teamed up with a variant version of the Spider-Friends and together we would’ve saved the Multiverse (cue the theme song):
