The Adventures of Tintin…
Kinda wish that my late dog (Chewie) were here to read this (read more on what happened to him in my “The Life of Chewie”), for he and I really shared a lot in common with the fictional adventurers, Tintin and Snowy (Picture: Top Center), which is why today I’ve finally decided to talk more about The Adventures of Tintin (as I’m still waiting on the sequel to the 2011 movie) or perhaps maybe they should just have Tintin rebooted into an animated series (for there’s potential for the character for the whole world to see)...
Tintin’s origin hails from Belugim from author Herge (Picture: Top Center), though I have never been to Belgium before (I do dream about going there someday), I grew up with Tintin due to my Dad having this big collection of Tintin books that he had as a kid (even his sister also enjoyed the), so now he’s passed on that collection of Tintin Adventure books to me (and also my Dad’s sister’s Kids also grew up with Tintin), to be honest, I feel like I was the only one (from my generation growing up through the K-12th grade outside of my family) who really knew Tintin, I guess (in my opinion) Tintin wasn’t that popular in the US than compare to other British-related properties who have become more popular with an American audience over the years (in fact, I didn’t even knew that some of the cartoons/characters I enjoyed throughout my childhood originally came from Europe).
Plus there was also another comic that My Dad enjoyed, but I myself just couldn’t get into that compared to Tintin…and that was Astriex (Picture: Bottom Center), alongside his companions “Obelix and Dogmatix”, my Dad had several comics based on these guys, however (like Tintin), I don’t think Astriex and the gang were quite as popular with American audiences, besides I usually picture this trio as “Snoopy hanging around a mini-Thor and his friend, Volstagg”, but what are the odds these 3 will be popular with an American audience in the near future with an animated film like Tintin (only time will tell).
Going back to Tintin, I just felt more hooked on this character, for he was just a kid traveling around the world with a dog and faithful friend (Captain Haddock at times), as Tintin is both a reporter and adventurer, finding himself in the weirdest adventures for a teenager (of course, I didn’t began my crazed travel experience until my late teens, right after HS years, read more about those big world adventures that I had in my many travel-related blog posts of mine).
My favorite Tintin comic (out of my Dad’s collection) is Tintin in America (Picture: Top Left Corner), perhaps due to the fact that Tintin is from Belugim and coming to America is challenging to any outsider 1st arriving, and just look what happened to poor Tintin upon coming to America asking a police offer for me (Picture: Top Right Corner), though while the police have changed quite some within Todays Society, however (judging by this pic), things must’ve been different when asking a policeman for help, so be careful.
So remember how me and my late dog, Chewie (Picture: Bottom Left and Right Corners) were a bit like Tintin and Snowy (Picture: bottom center), well the pics don’t lie, ever since I bought Chewie from Nepal, he and I traveled quite a bit around the world (read more about Chewie’s Life in my “The Life of Chewie Post”), as my further travels won’t be the same without him…
Almost reminds me of the opening of the animated Tintin Cartoon from the early 1990s:
And for that 2011 Tintin Movie (Picture: Bottom Center), however (I learned from a friend from the Netherlands, who’s also a fan of Tintin) showed me trailers and clips of these 1960s live-action french Tintin Films, even my Dad never heard of them before.
(though I do find it very weird, they’re like 2-D characters that literally leap from the comics page)
But finally, Tintin and company would finally hit the big screen for a wider/American audience with Director Steven Spielberg and Producer Peter Jackson at the helm:
Though I’m surprised that Tintin would get a movie, which was a dream for me, despite the fact he wasn’t like a superhero, more like a “Teenage Indiana Jones from Belgium with a dog”, even has his own Rogues gallery:
Overall (in my opinion), I really did enjoy the film, even though they literally stuffed 3 plotlines from the books (The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham's Treasure, though Secret of the Unicron and Red Rackham’s Treasure is a 2-parter), plus the overall action was loosely based on Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones films, however, I’m pretty sure most fans of Tintin weren’t too happy about this big mashup, even my dad and his sister, though it’s just difficult to decide on how to do a Tintin film, as he’s been on so many adventures within his own books, it must’ve been difficult to decide on where to take the story. However, now that Paramount has sadly lost the rights of Indiana Jones to Disney (since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012), I feel like it’s the perfect time for Paramount Pictures/Nickelodeon Movies to revisit the world of Tintin (as a sequel is still in development hell with Peter Jackson expected to Direct this time), though I feel like Tintin should be rebooted as an animated series for “Paramount+ (with the animation styled inspired by 2019’s Netflix film, Klaus)”, then maybe reboot the Tintin Films to be more of “Origin stories” (leading up to his encounter with Captain Haddock), for I feel like the Books didn’t tell enough about Tintin’s past and that I feel like movies can help flesh that out more, besides Tintin was a hit at the box office, scored a Golden Globe for a best-animated feature and was nominated for best scored at the Oscars, thus, what’s taking so long for Tintin to return to Stardom…
Shame that my High School Band never did a “Tintin-Styled Show” (or a show based on a score by John Williams), I’m sure if they just listen to the movie music scores, they are both jealous/impressed:
Oh, and here’s a classic (for those who remember the Milanese Nightingale scene from the movie), now then, who out there considers Actress Jaime King (Aurra Sing from Star Wars: TCW) to be a Milanese Nightingale herself:
Or as The Great Captain Haddock (Picture: Bottom Left Corner) would say…
Overall, I feel like it’s time for Tintin to return once again to the big or small screen, though I’m sure Paramount is waiting on how Disney handles the latest Indiana Jones Film (The Dial of Destiny) goes, if successful, then they can bring Tintin back to the big screen (either continuing from the 2011 film or starting from scratch again), as there’s so more potential for Tintin to be shown towards an American audience unless some studio takes advantage in trying to have Astriex has to higher fame with an American Audience:
(Click here to read why Astriex is the same as Tintin)
So until my next Tintin-related Post, Ethan Stranger Signs off…
In the loving memory of Chewie (Thanks for the adventure, my furry canine companion)
See, I told y'all that Chewie and I are like Tintin and Snowy, in a way (a bit modernize)...
And Remember Captain Haddock’s Motivational Speech:
