Cassie Cryar: Lightsaber Lost

Been a while since I’ve done a Star Wars-related post, so with the release of the new live-action Star Wars series, Ashoka, coming soon, allow me to do a post about a certain thief that gave Ashoka one hell of a chase when her lightsaber was stolen, that thief’s name is Cassie Cryar (Picture: Top Center) and although she appeared in 1 episode of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, I feel like with the Ashoka series coming later this year, I feel like it would be a great opportunity to reintroduce Cassie Cryar (cause there’s no way that throughout the rest of the Clone Wars, She and her partner, Ione Marcy remained in prison forever, surely at some point, they must’ve tried to escape). So without further ado, allow me to dive deep into the life of Cassie Cryar.

I’ll never forget when I 1st watched the Clone Wars episode which featured Cassie Cryar (Lightsaber Lost), I was 13 at the time and I thought that she painted her face or judging by those stitches on the side of her mouth, I thought she went through some kind of Plastic Surgery (like with DC’s Joker removing his face), but later on, I would later learn that it’s just a simple white mask she put on to hide her face (though gotta say, that is one cheap mask, lady).

Here’s a better look at Cassie Cryar in this concept art (Pictures: Bottom Center), she just looks so different without her mask, though does act scarier whenever she opens her mouth very wide or even tries to smile, I wonder if her so-called “Playdoh spaghetti-like hair” is real or just used to keep her white face mask from falling off.

What’s unique about her is how she was able to sneak behind Ashoka and punch her

Gotta say, Cassie Cryar’s species (Terrelian Jango Jumpers) would dominate the Olympics

As for her partner in crime (Ione Marcy, Picture: Bottom Left Center) isn’t much of a fighter, though her species is a bit weird (it’s like an amalgam of a Twi’lek and a Nautolan), plus imagine a human with sideways-like eyes and hands that make you look like you have oven mitts (can Ione Marcy even type on a keyboard with those kinds of hands)?

I read somewhere that both Cassie Cryar and Ione Marcy (Picture: Top Right Corner) are in fact…lovers (even though Ione Marcy was in love with a Trandoshan named Nack Movers, who was already dead within the episode, but also in love with Cassie Cryar).

Interestingly, Cassie Cryar is voiced by the same actress as “Aurra Sing”, Jaime King (Picture: Bottom Center), who’s also voiced other characters throughout the Clone Wars.

While being voiced by the same voice actress, There’s a big difference between both Cassie Cryar and Aurra Sing, and Jaime King has provided the answer, while Aurra Sing is a bounty hunter that all feared and only cares for the money, but was a motherly mentor-like figure to the young Boba Fett (though later abandoned him, read my “Aurra Sing-related Trilogy posts” for more info), Cassie Cryar is described as a thief who’s “mischievous, strong and bold”, Jaime King mentions that Cassie Cryar “isn’t all that bad (compare to Aurra Sing), she’s just doing what she needs to do in order to survive Coruscant’s underworld, similar within Today’s society (especially for those living in big crowded cities, who are just trying to make a living with everyday life-related struggles), thus, people with those issues can easily relate to Cassie Cryar (in some way, I guess).

(Cue the “Street Life Music”, let’s see Cassie Cryar sing and dance to that)

As I mentioned before, with the Ashoka series (Picture: Bottom Center) coming to Disney+, is there any way for both Cassie Cryar and Ione Marcy (Picture: Bottom Left Center) to make an appearance, maybe even interact with some of the REBELS crew that’s expected to appear and maybe even becoming professional bounty hunters than just random thieves, maybe serving as the “Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy (Picture: Bottom Right Corner) within the Star Wars universe (to better help flesh out these one-shot characters), that is, unless if that “Star Wars Underworld Series” ever got made (or will get made), I’m sure that the duo would’ve made their live-action debut.

You know, Speaking of Harley Quinn, after listening to Jaime King (Picture: Bottom Center) voice Cassie Cryar (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), imagine if she used that same voice to voice Harley Quinn (Picture: Bottom Right Corner) in a either a future DC animated Series, a Robot Chicken sketch or a simple sketch for SNL (what do you think)?

(Also, think about if Jaime King’s Cassie Cryar voice could fit Harley Quinn in a DC series or comedy sketch)

Also, you can imagine both Jaime King’s Star Wars characters (Aurra Sing & Cassie Cryar) forming an alliance to take down Ashoka for good, even though Aurra Sing was announced dead in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, I did read this article that Aurra Sing might’ve “faked her own death” and Tobias Beckett took credit for it, so if that’s the case (and the possibility of maybe bringing Cassie Cryar back for the Ashoka series), it’ll be perfect for the duo to assemble against Ashoka (depending on how successful the series becomes and how long it lasts) and if Jaime King returns to do some redubbing on both her Star Wars characters (like how in 2018’s Solo, Ray Park physically portrays Darth Maul while Sam Wither voices him).

Plus, if Cassie Cryar did escape from prison at some point, she probably decided to break into show biz, a lifestyle that Twi’lek Slave, Oola wished she lived (read more in my “Hopes and Dreams: The Story of Oola”).

Ethan Stranger signs off, but watch here to see the ending of the Episode (Lightsaber Lost)...

Plus, I’m not sure if Cassie Cryar ever heard the news of Jedi master Tera Sinube’s Death, if she did, at least in some way, she got some back payback on the old Jedi master (if Ashoka heard the news, she be crushed).
