The Chewie Legacy: Meet Hachi

For those you’ve read my “The Life of Chewie Post”, you already read that back in February, My dear beloved Chewie had passed away due to complications from pancreatitis and I often thought to myself if I was capable of having another dog in my life, plus with all the traveling I’ve done for nearly a decade in a half, I just don’t know if I’m also in a good position to handle a dog, for traveling with a pet is complicated enough (read more about that in my “Flying Pet Airlines Post”), however, when I came back from my week to Oregon (Read about that in my “Off to Oregon Post”), a little someone was waiting for me (though I actually already knew the news ahead before I left), but I was really ready for this…well, the answer may surprise you, for now, I will tell how this “Tiny Terror (Picture: Top Center)” came into my life and how he’s different from Chewie.

(Everybody, say Hi…To Hachi, the newest member of Ethan Stranger’s Family)

“and they call it…Puppy Love”...

Hachi is named after the real-like dog Hachiko (Picture: Bottom Right Corner)”, which later his story would be adapted into a film, in which his name was shortened toHachi (Picture: Bottom Left Corner)”. Hachi was originally called “Chewie Jr or Chewie II and even Louie” (for that was My late Dog’s Chewie nickname, “Chewie Louie”), but Hachi it was.

Eventually, after I return from Oregon, there were my parents waiting for me at the airport, and there was Hachi too (who was a bit older compare to when I 1st got Chewie, Chewie was only 2 months old when I adopted him, where Hachi was around 4-5 months old), plus, he came from Nepal (Like Chewie), but was raised by some dog breeder, where Chewie (also from Nepal), he was raised in a pet store in a crowded cage (alongside his brother, sisters and some German Shepard Puppy), thus Chewie didn’t have a lot of freedom or proper care compare to Hachi (just right before we adopted him).

Hachi and Chewie are the same breeds (which are Japanese Spitz)...

(Click here to learn more about Japanese Spitz)

However, both Spitz are different, Chewie (Picture: Bottom Right Corner), he was too overprotective, and stubborn and took a while to get used to people and other dogs, he would also whine for too much attention, beg for food on the table and even not eat his food whenever it was given to him in his bowl, but Hachi (Picture: Bottom Left Center), though still a puppy, chews too much on people, he’s wild, eats paper and can’t seem to hold his business until you get him outside, but when outside, he gets nervous about doing his business and just waits until he’s inside and does his business there, which annoys everybody (Now I know how Jerry Smith feels with Snuffles):

To be fair,  having a Japanese Spitz is like having a “Scrappy Doo in your life”

(Ta Da Da Da Da Da! Puppy Power!)

Once Hachi (Picture: Bottom Left Corner) had entered our lives, it was gonna be a challenge for me to accept him, as I see too much of Chewie (Picture: Bottom Right Corner) in him, even though they’re the same breed, they have different personas, as Chewie was more overprotective and struggling in socialization, while Hachi is more stubborn whenever you walk him, he’s shy or too excited around other dogs and people, dips his paws in his water bowl and runs around like crazy (it’s like there’s a Tigger in the house), plus he hates whenever people walk barefooted, something that never bothered Chewie. Sometimes though, I do see a bit of Chewie within Hachi, for he hates loud noises and likes to sniff everywhere whenever you take him out, remains me of the ending of 2017’s A Dogs’ Purpose, where the owner (named Ethan like me) reunites with his childhood Dog (Bailey), who’s in the form of a new dog.

I wonder if VyVy Nguyen (Picture: Bottom Right Corner) can give me some advice on how can I truly bond with my dog following the loss of my other one (and maybe someday, my dear Hachi can boldly go where no canine has gone before, like in Netflix's Dogs in Space Series).

Well...Ethan Stranger (tearfully) Signs off…

As Chewie (Picture: Top Left Corner) was the star in several of my past blogs and now Hachi (Picture: Top Right Center) carries his legacy, as he looks over the horizon (which is the TV room), as his future remains uncertain, but all I can say is that now, he’s carrying “The Chewie Legacy”
